IMPORTANT NOTE: Currently, group volunteer opportunities are available on Friday's and limited to sizes no more than 20. All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. So that we can best match your interests with our volunteer opportunities, please be sure to tell us as much as possible us about your group. Volunteer projects will differ from the openings below, based on size and desired outcome of group.

Suiting Volunteer

As a suiting volunteer, you are able to help build self-confidence in our clients, the first stepping stone on the road to success. You work one-on-one with a Dress for Success San Antonio or Career Gear San Antonio client to help select the attire that will land the job she or he needs. This position allows you to contribute support and encouragement which will translate into the confidence the client will express in her or his first interview.

After employment, the client returns to Dress for Success San Antonio or Career Gear San Antonio for additional professional attire to help build a work wardrobe. Our volunteers are able to assist with this process as well. They make sure the client has the items needed to mix and match outfits for the work week.

Suiting is just one of the fun and exciting ways to boost confidence at Dress for Success San Antonio/Career Gear San Antonio. If you are interested in volunteering for this position, please do not hesitate to let us know. Come and be a part of the success story.

Career Center Volunteer

We have a comprehensive Career Center here at Dress for Success San Antonio/Career Gear San Antonio and we need volunteers to assist with Career Center resources. This volunteer position will allow you to help clients develop their job search skills as well as give them the information and advice they need to create a job portfolio that will help them get the job they want. By volunteering in the Career Center, you will give one-on-one assistance with job search, resume writing, interview skills, and career planning. Computer assistance is also offered for free on-line courses to sharpen job skills. This is a great way to help give clients tools they need to go into their interviews prepared and with a great feeling of confidence. If you are ready to see your knowledge put to work in someone else’s life, please let us know.

Professional Women’s Group (PWG) Meetings

Professional Women’s Group (PWG) Meetings

If you are looking to volunteer for only a few hours a month, our Professional Women’s Group for employed clients is always in need of people to come in and help out. We need volunteers to help with things such as greeting and signing in members. Most importantly, volunteers network with PWG members. This support is a lifeline for our clients as they strive for self-sufficiency. If you would like to volunteer for this position, we would be happy to welcome you on board. PWG volunteer opportunities available on the second Thursday evening of each month from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM.

Bureau of Speakers

Bureau of Speakers

We are seeking volunteers with public speaking skills who can conduct in-house and off-site presentations about Dress for Success San Antonio/Career Gear San Antonio programs, services, and processes.

  • To assigned audiences
  • To corporate, civic, and other groups
  • To potential donors
  • To referral resources

Varying volunteer hours available.

We are also seeking volunteers with relevant professional speaking skills who can present to Dress for Success San Antonio/Career Gear San Antonio clients in the following formats:

Professional Women’s Group

Professional groups for women employed and/or enrolled in school full time. The speaking topics fit under the following pillars: Health and Wellness; Work-Life Balance; Financial Planning; Written and Workplace Etiquette, Leadership and Civic Responsibilities

Volunteer opportunities available from 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM on the 2nd Thursday of each month for PWG.

Tuesday Tidbits Workshops

Varying personal/professional development workshops on alternating Tuesdays.

Tuesday Tidbits volunteer opportunities available from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM on alternating Tuesdays of each month.

RISE to Career Readiness

A 4-week course for women targeted at those who are seeking career clarification and confirmation. The ultimate goal is for clients to achieve “meaningful work” as opposed to being forever locked into the immediate employment they may need to address economic concerns. Targeted at clients who have not had opportunity to translate dreams into tangible goals and outcomes, clients in transition, or those consciously wanting to make a career change, the course will include career related activities centered around Remembering, Investigating, Acting and Moving Forward.

SOAR to Employment Readiness

An 8-week program for women that explores the journey of finding work and gaining the tools needed to obtain permanent work. This course delves into self-confidence, self-discovery, resume writing, interview skills and professional image building. SOAR opportunities available from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM during various 8-week periods throughout the year.

Board Committee Positions

Board Committee Positions

Use your professional skills to benefit our clients by way of Capacity Building. We are seeking volunteers with professional education experience and skills related to the following areas to serve on our Board committees:

  • Strategic Planning
  • Communications and Marketing (branding, etc.)
  • Resource Development (cash contributions, community connections, human capital)
  • Special Events (annual Taste of Success Casino Night, other events)

If you are interested in learning more about serving in person or remotely on one of our working committees, we would love to talk with you about possibilities for engaging you in mutually meaningful ways.

These hours will vary, some quite flexible.

Administrative/Clerical Positions


Make a substantial contribution and provide crucial support by assisting us with follow up phone calls to clients regarding their progress, data entry, organizing mailings and assisting with other administrative tasks.

Administrative/Clerical volunteer opportunities available Monday – Thursday from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM and Fridays from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
